Southeast Asia's energy transition — what it takes to get it right

The transition to clean energy demands more than speed — it requires the right policies, the right knowledge and the right people to deliver it. EnergyLab Asia is a non-profit working at the heart of this transition in Cambodia and Lao PDR and engaged across Southeast Asia.

Across Cambodia and Lao PDR, energy demand is rising, clean energy investment is accelerating and the policy decisions being made today will shape both countries’ energy futures for decades. We have a deep understanding of what’s happening, surface what’s missing, and share what we learn — openly, with anyone who can use it.

Growing the clean energy ecosystem

Growing the conditions for clean energy to take root

We work to support policy development, connect actors across the sector, and nurture the entrepreneurs and professionals who will drive the transition forward.

Clean energy knowledge & advocacy

Better decisions come from better evidence

We track clean energy progress across the region and share what we find with policymakers, development partners, universities, and civil society — in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and beyond.

Where we work

Cambodia

Cambodia has made remarkable progress — rapidly expanding its grid and connecting millions to electricity. The country now faces a harder question: how to make that system cleaner, more resilient, and fit for the decades ahead.

Current focus areas

Lao PDR

Lao PDR has a strong foundation in renewable energy through its hydropower sector. We work alongside the Government to strengthen planning capacity, explore the potential of electric mobility, and help meet the country’s climate commitments.
